Luzon /luːˈzɑːn/ (Tagalog: Kalusunan) is the largest island in the Philippines. It is located in the northernmost region of the archipelago, and is also the name of one of the three primary island groups in the country (the other two being the Visayas and Mindanao). Luzon as an island group includes Luzon proper, the Batanes and Babuyan groups of islands to the north, and the outlying islands of Catanduanes, Marinduque, Masbate, Romblon and Mindoro. Luzon is the economic and political center of the Philippines, being home to the country's capital city, Manila, and about half of the country's population. It is one of the most populated islands in the world, only behind Java, Honshu and Great Britain. It has a similar population size to Sumatra but much smaller area. This video is targeted...

A study published on May 3 reveals early human species may have been on Luzon island as early as 700,000 years ago.
According to the results of a 15-year study, the Philippines' largest island has the world's greatest concentration of unique mammals
The Journal's Badette Tamayo raises concerns over the blurring of lines between journalists and politicians in the Philippines, and the increased risk this brings to mediamen especially in the countryside, during the PCIJ training for Luzon journalists on media killings
Our Philippine Life is a video diary of my retirement to the Philippine Islands, showing videos of our travels while exploring the Philippines from our home in Batangas, through Luzon Island, and eventually traveling to other islands, like Mindoro, Cebu, Bohol, Boracay, Negros, Leyte, Palawan, Samar, and Mindanao. Another quick route from Makati CBD to Cavite. From Amorsolo Street, Makati, head over to Skyway entry at Arnaiz Road (formerly Pasay Road), go straight the highway until you reached Skyway exit ramp to SLEX (keep right). Drive leisurely until you reached MCX exit (keep right). It took me 20-25 mins on a relatively mild traffic afternoon.

Two new species of owls have been discovered in the Philippines, and a Michigan State University researcher played a key role in confirming their existence. The discovery, which is featured in the current issue of Forktail, the Journal of Asian Ornithology, took years to confirm, but it was well worth the effort, said the paper's lead author Pam Rasmussen MSU, assistant professor of zoology and assistant curator of mammalogy and ornithology at the MSU Museum.

Not knowing very much about the Philippines before I visited, I was pleasantly surprised by Manila and Subic and how they both reminded me of America. The highlight of the trip was getting a chance to visit a Vietnamese boat people refugee camp near Baataan. I met some friendly Pinoys too. The food was great. The transportation readily available. And the landscape extremely beautiful. There are plenty to see and do as well. -------------------------------------------------- About Me: I'm Kyle Le and I live, travel, and eat in Vietnam and many Asian countries.
